Contemporary garden design Marlow

BRIEF

The brief for this contemporary garden design Marlow emphasised adding much more interest to the space and removing the lawn, so that the client could spend more time simply hanging out in the garden and less time mowing the lawn.

We always ensure we spend plenty of time discussing what our client’s aspirations are for their garden – to produce the garden design brief. In this case the garden design brief included a discussion on specific ideas for how we could create interest within the space. We wanted to create some hidden pathways and ‘nooks and crannies’ that would allow them to explore the space and feel immersed in it. We also wanted to incorporate some changes of level and include a fire pit.

The house was due to have some alterations and we worked with the designs for the house created by their architect to create a garden design that flowed with the layout of the house.

DESIGN SOLUTION

This contemporary garden design Marlow was designed to make the garden feel bigger by emphasising the diagonal axes across the space. This was achieved through the layout of the garden and seating areas and the way that the Van de Mortal pavers were laid. This lead the eye across the longest parts of the garden – stretching the feeling of space.

We created changes of level by including a sunken seating area with chiminea fire pit and a raised sun deck. A corner pergola provided shade to the dining area which looked diagonally out across the sunken seating area to the sun deck beyond.

All areas of the garden design and the new trees were carefully positioned to provide either sun or shade when the client said they most wanted them. As with all of our projects we use Computer Aided Design (CAD) with geographical location that allows us to model the sun and shade at different times of day and times of year.
