Shortlisted – Association of Landscape Professionals awards 2023

contemporary garden design

We are very pleased to announce that we have not only been nominated, but have now been short listed for an award at the Association of Landscape Professionals (APL) 2023. Our Breeze House garden, in Thame, Oxfordshire, built by The Secret Landscape Company, has been praised for the elegance and simplicity of the design and clever use of space.

We create garden designs for small gardens and larger sites – they each have their own challenges and opportunities and we enjoy designing both. With designs for smaller gardens, the trick is often to try and make the garden feel bigger than it actually is. There are several ways to do this – as we have discussed in this blog article on designing small gardens, but in the case of this garden, we looked carefully at the best way to position the various elements that the client wanted to have within the garden – how to orientate them, so they made the best use of space whilst relating to each other in a comfortable way. This included a lounge area, a Breeze House and a greenhouse, which we related to each other by including raised beds, screens, changes of materials and subtle changes of level to create a sense of journey through the garden.

This garden design is the sort of project which gives us great satisfaction to work on as the clients were delighted with the result and to be nominated for an award is both the icing on the cake and helps our future clients to be confident that they are choosing an award winning garden design studio, recognised within the landscape industry.
