Bridging Indoors and Outdoors at Hedgerow House Oxfordshire – with Barr Build
We are delighted to share news of a recent project that beautifully showcases the seamless integration of our landscape design with exceptional architectural transformation: the reimagining of a 1980s property into a modern architect designed home near Oxford.
Richard Rogers Designs collaborated with the esteemed design and construction company Barr Build and Palmer + Partners Architects on this ambitious project, focusing on creating a harmonious connection between the newly reimagined property and its serene rural surroundings.
Palmer + Partners Architects created a vision to transform the 40-year-old property, refining the aesthetic while, together with Richard Rogers Designs, strengthening the connection to the outdoors.
Our role at Richard Rogers Designs, led by award-winning garden designer Richard Rogers, was to ensure the external spaces complemented the architectural vision, acting as a “bridge between the house and the surrounding countryside”. The oak-clad and rendered property’s angular form inspired a design that mirrored these aesthetics with straight-edged planting beds and paving near the building, transitioning into softer, more naturalistic curves with paths and edges further afield, including a wildflower meadow. The implementation of this vision was brought to life by The Secret Landscape Company.
This project highlights the power of collaborative design, with landscape architect Richard Rogers working closely alongside the architects and interior designers from Last Interior Design to ensure cohesion and balance throughout the entire property. A key feature where this collaboration shines is the outdoor entertaining space leading to a secluded hot tub area, thoughtfully integrated with lush planting and sculptural screening elements, seamlessly extending from the home pub – a structural bridge between architecture and landscape design.
