Naturalistic garden design Oxfordshire

BRIEF

Our client asked to us create a naturalistic garden design for their new house near Oxford, which they had designed themselves and were in the process of having built. The architecture of the house was relatively modern, but the house sat within a very rural location and was designed and built on principles of sustainability. We were asked to incorporate a green roof, use natural materials and work within the constraints of the planning conditions for the site development. They had been searching for a garden design in Oxfordshire

We needed to create a child friendly garden design as the client had young children and there was a stream running alongside the property which needed some form of barrier, without creating a feeling of separation from the surrounding countryside. In fact, creating a garden design that enhanced the views to the fields beyond the property boundaries was near the top of the wish list.

DESIGN SOLUTION

Our clients were delighted with their garden design which captured their desire to balance contemporary design with a naturalistic feel – linking the house with its rural setting. As garden designers we always aim to create a garden that harmomises with its surroundings and the architecture of the property whilst achieving all elements of the the design brief we create alongside our clients.

This garden design incorporated sweeping curves and drifts of naturalistic planting that would both lead the eye to the surrounding views but also create a sense of journey within the garden. A willow dome was added, maintaining the natural aesthetic and providing a fun hideaway for the children. A productive kitchen garden was also added with raised beds that echoed the architecture of the house.
